How to Buy the Right Hostess Gifts

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

It’s always a nice gesture to be invited to someone’s party in their home. Whether it’s a housewarming party, a going away party, or just a birthday celebration, you want to give hostess gifts that will show how much you appreciate being there. But you want to make sure your getting a gift that’s appropriate and useful.

The best kind of hostess gift is either one that will be of asset to the party or one that will work beautifully in the home. If the get together is for a housewarming, it’s always nice to bring a bottle of wine or champagne as an offering to both the host or hostess and their guests. Gift baskets are also a sweet gesture, something for them to enjoy that also says “congrats on the new place!”

If you want to get them something a little bit pricier, longer lasting and more meaningful, think about items that will suit the home. It can be as simple as a picture frame which they can use for pictures from that very party. Or a piece of art that you’d know they’d love. Try to figure out who their favorite artist is, or what their interests are. If they love travel, maybe a portrait of an exotic locale would be perfect. Wall art and frames are a really popular and safe bet for gifts.

Kitchenware is also a great choice for hostess gifts. Barware works well. A set of beer glasses, wine glasses, or tumblers can be a great addition to any home. Serving plates are also a nice way of saying “invite us back for more fun!” These kind of kitchen items are especially useful for housewarming parties because they are incredibly useful to someone who may not have a full kitchen set up just yet. It helps them save money on all the new additions they’ll need and for that they will most certainly be grateful.

The most important thing you consider with a hostess gift is the person. You don’t want to pick something up that is totally the opposite of their personality or that won’t be useful to them. That just tells them you don’t really know them as a person and might not warrant you an invite back to the next get together. If you are ever unsure, the worst thing you can do is ask. You’d be better off getting something you know they’ll be happy with than just blindly guessing.

The Wisconsin Cheeseman's Facility

The Wisconsin Cheeseman® is one of the leading mail order gift food companies operating within the United States. The attractively landscaped headquarters and primary production facility is located along Highway 151 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Featuring an Old Swiss Chalet exterior, the charm and warmth of the European countryside is ever present.

Founding owners Garvin and Helen Cremer first conceived the idea for mail order food gifts while Christmas shopping for Garvin’s relatives in 1946. Familiar with cheese and sausage gift packs sold locally in Wisconsin, the Cremers’ developed the concept of promoting similar gift packages for distribution to customers through the mail.

They produced their first catalog, a small mail order flyer featuring three gift items, in 1947 mailing it to businesses and individuals. The catalog has now grown to over 50 colorful pages of festive, high quality gift packs of cheese, sausages, hams, jams & jellies, chocolate candies, fruit cakes, dietetic & sugar-free, and other delicacies. Great gift ideas for all ages and occasions!

We now make most of the chocolates, cheese spreads, logs & balls, jams, jellies & preserves that are featured in our gift selections catalog right here in our Wisconsin kitchens. Many of our chocolates and cheeses have received awards at both the state and national level.

Literally millions of people, including celebrities, dignitaries, service men and women from all 50 states share an annual tradition…placing a holiday order or receiving gifts from the family-run Wisconsin Cheeseman.
